Hey, babe. I am so excited that you are shopping for your wedding photographer. So may I just say… Congratulations on getting engaged! We are over the moon for you and your fiancé. Now that you’re ready to start planning and booking your top vendors it could get overwhelming fast. So let me help you figure how long to have wedding photographer at your wedding.
The first thing you need to know about how long to have wedding photographer is you need to be realistic. And babe trust me I know this is quite the investment! But the last thing I want for you is to think you can save some bucks by cutting back on wedding photography hours. You will regret that. So instead of picking a budget for wedding photography first, let’s figure out how many hours you need.
Okay let’s get to the good part! Use my formula below to figure out how long to have wedding photographer on your big day. Simply add up the things that you want photographed by amount of hours listed and you’ll have your estimate.
Getting Ready: 1 hour
Details: 1 hour
First Look: .5 hours
Wedding party: .5 hours
Ceremony: .5 hours
Family Portraits: .5 hours
Cocktail Hour: 1 hour
Toasts: .5 hours
Sunset Photos: .5 hours
Cake: .25 hours
Special Dances: .25 hours
Dance Party: 1 hour
Grand Exit: .25 hours
Please note: these are estimates. These estimates do not account for any delays or travel time between locations. And that can add up REAL fast. Especially if you have multiple locations on the big day. So we recommend a minimum of 8 hours for most standard weddings. Almost all of our couples book 8 – 10 hours of coverage to really get all the details and memories covered.
What total did you come up with? If you need help designing a rough timeline to get a more accurate result shoot me a quick email and I will help you out. Happy planning!
Hi babe! I’m Angela and I am a California wedding photographer based in the Bay Area and the Central Valley. All my couples receive one-on-one timeline coaching and development. So when you’re a part of our community this can all be done for you. And if you need some Bay Area wedding inspiration check out April + Austin’s Vivid Fall Wedding at Clos La Chance. I’m also dying to photograph a Fresno wedding at The Margaux! There is still availability in 2024.
