It was the 80’s. He was into AC/DC and Stratematic. She was into Huey Lewis and weekends out with her friends. After a successful journey with Weight Watchers, Tony started leading classes all over Santa Clara County. And he ended up leading a class in Kim’s hometown of Fremont. A class she started attending occasionally. It was this class that introduced my parents to each other and led to their Monterey Anniversary Photos at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Shortly before New Year’s Eve, my mom showed up to my dad’s class for what would be the last time for several months. During the weigh-in (awkward right!), my dad tells us he was trying to muster up the courage to ask my mom out for New Year’s. But my mom didn’t catch on, and they didn’t see each other for 3 months. At their Monterey Anniversary Photos, my mom told us she happened to attend my dad’s last class in Fremont. And that’s when he made his move. He said, “Kim, I’d like to get to know you better outside of Weight Watchers.”
My mom tells us that my dad was always different from the other guys. He always did exactly what he said he was going to do. So when he took her to the Monterey Bay Aquarium for their first date, she knew then that he was special. No dinner and a movie for Tony! He was creative. And when she wasn’t feeling well, he made sure she was well taken care of. We even grew up as members of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, frequently visiting and reliving their story. And that is why we decided to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary at the same place my dad took my mom for their first date with Monterey Anniversary Photos.
Mom + Dad: it is because of your legacy of love that I feel so passionate to help celebrate the legacy of love for others. Your 30 years of marriage is beautiful with all it’s highs and lows and in between. And the two of you could not be more opposite. Which only proves to us that love is more than a feeling. It is a choice, and it is commitment. Thank you for loving each other so well. It has shaped my brothers and I, and it is shaping our marriage. We love you!
Love,
A&M
When I started thinking of where we might take my parents’ 30th anniversary photos, I dreamed of getting to take them inside the very place that started it all. While the aquarium wished us well, we couldn’t go in for safety reasons due to COVID. But we still celebrated with Monterey Bay Aquarium Photos just outside the entrance with a stunning view of Cannery Row. Made for perfect Monterey Anniversary Photos!
